People leaving or who have left the Armed Forces can bring relevant experience into policing.
Moving into policing
Military service does not replace the police recruitment process. Applicants must meet the requirements of the open vacancy and complete its selection and checks.
Transferable experience
Leadership, teamwork, communication, resilience, public service and decision making can be relevant evidence. Candidates should relate their own experience to the requirements of the police role.
A different professional context
Police powers, criminal law, safeguarding, evidence and professional standards require learning relevant to the role even where a candidate has substantial military experience.
Selection and checks
The live campaign sets the entry route, assessment stages and pre-employment checks. Previous service does not guarantee progression or appointment.
Support with the move
Use Recruitment if a published requirement or the translation of previous experience into the application needs clarification.
Current opportunities
Only opportunities shown on Vacancies are open for application. An information page does not mean recruitment is open.
