Police Support Volunteers

Police Support Volunteers are not warranted police officers. They give their time to defined support roles that support policing and communities.

Role and safeguards

A volunteer post has a defined purpose, supervision, appropriate checks, training and access controls. Appointment as a PSV does not by itself confer police powers.

How PSVs support policing

A PSV role can provide practical, administrative, community or specialist support to a police team where there is an approved volunteer requirement.

A defined volunteer role

Each opportunity should state what the volunteer will do, who supervises the work, what access is needed and what training or checks apply.

Police powers

A Police Support Volunteer is not a Police Constable and does not acquire police powers merely by volunteering.

Applying

Only an approved opportunity published by HIOWC is open. The opportunity explains any eligibility, time commitment and selection arrangements.

Current opportunities

Only opportunities shown on Vacancies are open for application. An information page does not mean recruitment is open.
